Two Weeks Left
It doesn’t feel real. I’m leaving in 14 days (well, actually I’ll be on the plane 14 days from now) and it just doesn’t feel real. Maybe I feel this way because I have yet to pack up my room, or that I’m still going to work everyday like I always do. My paper chain is so small it’s scary (14 paper loops doesn’t take up much room) and my last day of ...
25 Days to go
25 days until lift off (6am on Sunday March 4) and tomorrow I’m off to California to spend some time with my sister and hit Disneyland and Knott’s Berry farm. Never been to Knott’s Berry farm before and I super excited to go.
After that its the sprint to the end with my last day of work on the 24th, giving me 10 days to pack up my room and try to figure out how I can fit...

56 Days To Go
Just in case you’ve forgotten what my original count (192) looked like, here is a reminder:
Well, it’s been quite a while since that day.
I’m down to 56. Just 56 little days left. My suitcases are on the floor, half packed with those things I won’t need until I leave and a few things I may still use thrown on top of them. My tablet is bought. I got a bluetooth...

Last Christmas
Hard to think this is my last Christmas in the States for two years. I may get lucky and my parents will miss me so much they’ll fly me home, but that’s a long shot. So here’s to one last American Christmas for a while:
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

On Thoughts of Autumn and Progress
Autumn is here. After an unending winter, non-existent spring and a delayed summer, autumn has shown its colored and wet face. I love the Pacific Northwest at this time of year. There is a lot of talk about people being more depressed in this area because of the dark, cloudy days that endure for about 8 months of the year - I am most certainly not one of those people. While I don’t...

Peace Corps' annual budget for 8,700 volunteers... →
katiehiebert:
I can’t believe people actually talk about getting rid of the Peace Corps, like it is such a burden on the American taxpayer.
The entire annual budget of the Peace Corps is less than the budget of the army marching band.
Wow.

iamnotgrammaticallycorrect asked: I'm following you because you're leaving for the PC about 5 months before I hope to. I've pretty much been promised a nomination once the program opens Sept. 15, and my earliest available date is Aug. 2012. I'm super excited, along with a thousand other emotions. I hope you don't mind me following you!

192 Days And Counting
I actually went through my calender at work and counted. 192 days until I leave for Senegal. I am of two minds when I think about this number. On facebook there is a group for those volunteers that are leaving for the DC staging next week. As I read the questions, plans to meet up at the airport, and debates over bringing laptops I can’t help but feel jealous. It doesn’t matter...

The Obligatory Intro
I suppose the first post on any blog is the place to explain why a person even has a blog in the first place. If the description isn’t a dead give away, allow me to expand: I’m leaving for Senegal in March next year for service in the Peace Corps. This is where I will (hopefully) keep in touch with the outside world. Letters to and from Africa will take weeks, and calling is going to...
